Can you tell us about your current role at Heraeus Electronics and the location where you were based?

For the past six months, I have served as Interim Site Head and General Manager at Heaeus Electronics in Conshohocken, USA. There, I lead daily operations, aligned cross-functional teams, and drove strategic improvements that directly impacted productivity, efficiency, and overall site performance — even in challenging circumstances. Before stepping into this leadership role, I was based in Hanau, Germany, where I focused on operational execution as Production Manager for Power Electronics at Heraeus Electronics.

What motivated you to take up an assignment at another Heraeus Electronics location?

The opportunity to work at another location really appealed to me — I was motivated by the chance to experience a new culture, build meaningful professional relationships, and take on new challenges that would support both personal and professional growth.

Transitioning from a production manager role to a broader commercial leadership position as Site Manager required thoughtful decisions and a willingness to step outside my comfort zone, and I’ve approached this journey with commitment, curiosity, and a focus on delivering value.

How was your experience in the new location?

My experience in the USA has been truly rewarding. Working in a dynamic environment alongside talented colleagues from diverse backgrounds has been a highlight and the open mindset and strong team spirit at the Conshohocken site made it easy to feel welcomed and part of the Thick Film Family, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual respect.

What are some of the biggest challenges you faced while adapting to the new environment?

While adapting to a new environment came with challenges — especially learning the specifics of the Thick Film Materials product line and stepping into a role with broader commercial responsibilities — I approached them with focus and humility.

One of the most personal challenges was being away from my wife and three young children in Germany, which required careful planning and strong support from both my family and colleagues.

I wasn’t fully aware of what I was capable of until I had to adapt to a new culture, take on expanded responsibilities, and manage the distance from my loved ones — all at once.

Taking on the role of Interim Site Head meant accepting full responsibility for outcomes, and I’ve worked with a long-term mindset, aiming to raise standards and contribute meaningfully to the site’s success.

Taking on the interim role in the U.S. was a leap into the unknown — but it turned out to be one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. I’m proud to now lead the Hanau site, bringing back everything I’ve learned to strengthen our team and operations.

Can you share a memorable moment or achievement from your time abroad?

One of the most memorable moments from my time abroad was participating in a team-building event at a Thick Film Summit. Our team earned second place at Topgolf, which was a fun and exciting experience — especially since it was my first time golfing. The event fostered camaraderie and highlighted the value of teamwork and collaboration.

Throughout my assignment, I’ve been guided by honesty, fairness, and ethical decision-making, consistently advocating for Heraeus' interests and ensuring our operations reflect our core values and build trust with stakeholders.

How has working in a different location contributed to your professional growth?

Working abroad has been a deeply enriching experience, contributing significantly to my professional growth. I’ve gained fresh perspectives, discovered new approaches to problem-solving, and developed a stronger understanding of global business practices, which has made me more versatile and confident in my abilities.

A key focus has been deepening my knowledge of the Thick Film Materials product line, where I’ve consistently looked for innovative ways to improve processes and strengthen our competitive edge. These experiences have equipped me well for my current role as Site Head Hanau, where I continue to apply what I’ve learned to lead with purpose and drive performance.

What advice would you give to colleagues considering a similar opportunity?

My advice to colleagues considering a similar opportunity is to embrace the experience with openness and curiosity. Challenges will come, but so will moments of growth, learning, and connection that stay with you long after the assignment ends. It's a unique chance to broaden your horizons, build lasting relationships, and make a meaningful impact — both personally and professionally.

Leadership, to me, is about showing up with integrity and purpose in everyday actions. I’ve aimed to inspire through commitment and care, fostering a culture where people feel valued and empowered to grow.

What is your favorite American food?

My favorite American food is pepperoni pizza – it's delicious, yummy!
